Soon … new metro lines connect the two parts of the city of Istanbul
Turkish Transport Minister Ahmed Arslan said that the railway linking the two parts of the Asian and European city of Istanbul would enter service by the end of the next year 2018.
The new metro lines are expected to run for 77 kilometers without interruption and will benefit about one and a half million passengers.
When the new metro line is completed by the end of 2018, the trip time between Halkalı in the European section and Gebze in the Asian section will be reduced from three hours to one hour and 45 minutes, thus providing an hour and a quarter of each trip, Arslan said.
Istanbul is also preparing to receive five new metro lines by 2019, which will allow the city’s population to travel more than 400 kilometers through the railways and contribute significantly to reducing the traffic crisis.
