Hirka Serif Mosque in Istanbul
The mosque, located in the Muhtesip İskender neighborhood of Fatih, was built by Sultan Abdulmecid in 1851 for the purpose of housing and protecting the Prophet Mohammed’s mantle. For this reason, the mosque was named “Hırka-i Şerif, the Holy Mantle. The structure occupies a prominent place within Istanbul folklore.
